Banana Cake with Vanilla frosting

don't know what to do with 2 matured bananas? make it into this easy-peasy yummy cake!
the only thing i would change in this recipe next time is the frosting... too sweet for my tongue! or maybe make only 1/2 a batch so it is less sweet. thinking of finding an oreo flavoured frosting, the choco taste would be complimentary to the banana-vanilla flavoured cake, no?

makes one 8x8-inch pan (double recipe for a 9x13 pan). (I used 8cm diameter round pan, still thin cake)

Cake:
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup sour cream
1 egg
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup mashed super ripe banana (about 2) (i only had 1/2 cup, still turned up ok, i added 1/5 cup of flour as compensation though, looking back: banana should have been replaced w butter instead of flour?))
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Frosting:
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste* (see below)
1 1/4 cups confectioner's sugar

To make cake (easily mixed by hand - i used juice mixer b4 pouring flour so that the banana mashed better):
1. Preheat the oven to 375F (190C. i used 170) (see note below).  Grease pan w butter + flour
2. Cream together sugar, sour cream, egg, and 2 tablespoons softened butter.  Add mashed bananas and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.  (i used juicer mixer)
3. Add flour, salt, and baking soda; mix well.
4. Pour into greased 8x8 pan.  Bake at 375F (i used 170) for 20-25 (i used 18mins) minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
5. Cool completely then reverse cake, before frosting.

To make frosting:
Cream butter and confectioner's sugar together until smooth.  Slowly add the heavy cream; stir until smooth.  Stir in the vanilla bean paste until fully incorporated.  Spread on cooled cake. Put in fridge so the frosting wont melt.

Note - Bake at 350F if using a glass pan.  Recipe doubles well to fit in a 9x13 pan.  

*Here's the general rule for substituting vanilla: 1 vanilla bean = 1 tablespoon vanilla powder = 1 tablespoon vanilla bean paste = 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract.
